The Zimbabwe Gender Commission said it was seized with dealing with cases of sexual harassment in institutions of learning, particularly the Catholic University and Monte Casino.

Catholic University is a Roman Catholic run institution based in Harare. Monte Casino is also a Roman Catholic run girls high school in Macheke, Mashonaland East.

Commission chairperson, Margaret Mukahanana Sangarwe, confirmed the probe was underway and no stone will be left unturned in bringing culprits to book.

She was speaking on the sidelines of a feedback workshop organised by the Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small to Medium Enterprises Development.

“We have had to send people to look at reported cases of sexual harassment. We went to Monte Casino, Bondolfi and Catholic University where there were reports of students who were sexually harassed and we are having a lot of reports and we are preoccupied with investigating to make sure that whoever is responsible is brought to book,” she said.

The workshop was attended by several government Ministers who include the host Minister, Sithembiso Nyoni, Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting services Monica Mutsvangwa among other delegates.

UN Women was also represented.

Other issues that were discussed include gender mainstreaming in creating access to public service and social protection.
